Litti Chokha Dish of Bihar

Litti is a traditional food item highly popular in Bihar, Indian state. A savory snack comprising roasted wheat flour balls stuffed with sattu and spices which are filled into the ball. Mostly, it goes with Chokha as a spiced side dish made by roasting of egg plant, tomatoes and potatoes together.

To make litti, take wheat flour, ghee, ajwain, kalonji, and salt and knead the dough. Make small balls, flatten them, and then fill it with roasted gram flour mixture. Now roast those stuffed dough balls till crispy from outside and golden brown in color.

The highlight of litti is the stuffing made of roasted gram flour. It gets seasoned with spices like mustard oil, green chilies, and sometimes chopped onions and garlic, depending upon regional variations.

Chokha is served with the prepared litti on the side. To prepare chokha, one needs to roast the eggplant, tomatoes, and potatoes until they are blackened and cooked. These roasted vegetables are then crushed together with spices and mustard oil.

Litti is the most delicious snack from Bihar and also forms an integral part of the cuisine and culture of Bihar. This one is enjoyed by everybody without any age barriers. Generally, it is served during festivals, celebrations, and other special occasions. The amazing mixture of flavors and texture within litti and chokha makes it a fully satisfying treat for food lovers.
